Why does one small country need so many world cup songs? Are they trying to compensate for something? I can’t believe it’s that reason since ESPN Soccernet explains that “The South Koreans are the powerhouses of Asia when it comes to World Cups, having qualified for the past six tournaments leading into 2010″.
I think this world cup song phenomenon probably has something to do with the Korean cultural propensity for trending. Koreans love trends and following trends to the extent that I swear if an item becomes popular, everyone’s wearing it within a week. Too bad world cup songs don’t seem to be any quality. Why? Because they don’t have to be. The only thing that matters when it comes to world cup songs is that you release one. A band/singer could release a webcam video of themselves chanting “Go Korea” repeatedly, while one member drummed on the table and another farted to provide the bass, and the song would be hailed with success by the public.

The only official song chosen to represent Korea for the 2010 FIFA World Cup album is 2AM’s “No. 1″
. It was composed by Bang Shi Hyuk (방시혁), who did I Was Wrong (잘못했어), but it’s nowhere near as good.
I think my favorite World Cup song is “Victory Korea” by Super Junior (슈퍼주니어). It’s got a really fun beat and it’s catchy! What a novelty!
KARA’s (카라) song “We’re With You” is a world cup song that I’ve previously blogged about because I love their cheerleading outfits and cute looks in this MV. Definitely a step above most IMO.
P.S. Word on the street is that KARA’s leader, Gyuri (박규리), is totally into Park Ji-Sung (박지성).
Another world cup performance I can kind of get into is T-ara’s (티아라) “We Are The One” (우리는 사람이야). It’s always fun to shout “ole ole” and I’m sure the ajjushi love to watch T-ara jumping around in their cheerleading outfits.
The new girl group, HAM, released their song “We Are One” (우리는 하나), on April 18th. My feeling is blah. Is this a World Cup song or an OST to a dramatic movie about a funeral at the World Cup?
Then, talk about star power, Big Bang (빅뱅) teamed up with hottie hot hot figure skater Kim Yuna (김연아) and the Korean rock group Trans Fixion (트랜스픽션) to release their World Cup song “The Shouts of Reds Part 2″ (승리의 함성) .
Oh wait! Hold the phone! There’s another girl band I almost forgot that released a world cup song: After School (애프터스쿨) released the song “Dreams Again!” (드림스 어게인!).
And then there’s 2PM with their song “What’s Your Celebration?” (너만의 짜릿한 세레모니를 보여줘)
Last, but not least, there’s another song I’ve previously blogged about: the Brown Eyed Girls (브라운 아이드 걸스) and 4Minute (포미닛) redo of The Village People’s song “Go West”, which is called “Once More, Korea!” (다시 한 번 대한민국)

Haven't made an update in forever, but have lately become obsessed with SHINee's (샤이니) Lucifer (루시퍼)
BoA (보아) totally copied me: she's gone blonde for her Korean comeback MV: "Game" (게임)
SE7EN (세븐) is back with Digital Bounce and an MV for "Better Together" and he's so frickin' HOT!
"You" by Yuya Matsushita (松下優也) makes me wanna dance
I don't think I've ever seen anything like Sound Horizon's (サウンドホライズン) new MV for "Hikari To Yami No Douwa" (光と闇の童話)
I'm liking B2Y's (비투와이) "Be Crazy" 미쳐버리게!
Orange Caramel's (오렌지 캬라멜 ) "Magic Girl" (마법소녀/魔法少女): These girls are so cute and sweet, they're cloying!
D-NA (대국남아) stumbles a bit with their "Stumble Stumble" (비틀비틀) MV
T.O.P. raps it fierce in his new MV for "Turn it Up"
2PM’s 10 out of 10 (10점 만점에 10점) stands the test of time (my concert fancam + official MV)
